“Putting Citizens before Politics”

These are the commitments which I stand behind. They are an integral part of my platform.

Transparency.

A transparent Sheriff’s Office is paramount in order to achieve trust from the public whom I, and all personnel, serve. You deserve to know what is going on and have a voice in the processes. With due regard to safety and on-going criminal investigations, information will flow from this office.

Constitutionality.

The United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Michigan are absolute cornerstones, with special emphasis on the 2nd and 4th Amendments. Respectively, your right to “keep and bear arms” as well as the right to be “secure in {your} persons, houses, papers, and effects” are bedrocks of this great nation. These binding documents will be the foundation upon which this Sheriff’s Office operates.

Accountability.

The expectations of the Sheriff’s Office are high. As the Sheriff, I promise to maintain honest and ethical conduct within the department and in all interactions. Checks and balances are a necessary part of government. In an effort to keep checks and balances in place, I will develop a Community Summary Panel. Bonded with Transparency, there will be regular meetings about the Barry County Sheriff’s Office where your questions will be heard and you will be provided with facts.

Integrity.

No one is perfect. However, doing the right thing and being truthful in spite of the consequences is an expectation that I have for myself and one for which this office and I am responsible to you. We are going to tell the truth. Time and time again, this moral virtue has been proven. No law enforcement agency can be effective without truthfulness. From the beginnings of an investigation to the last statement in a courtroom, this Office must hold integrity in the highest regard.
